Kanpire Falls

An island sacred place whose name means "place where gods sit"

Located upriver on the Urauchi River. Downriver some 250 meters is the Mariyudo Waterfalls. Kampire means “a place where the gods sit;” the name is related to the Iriomote island creation myth. The river bottom is sand bedrock for about 200 meters. Kampire is a small waterfall with an easy drop through many stages. The water flows fast here and throws up a mist of white spray. At last the river reaches Mariyudo Falls and flows into the sediment pool.
